Carbon Monoxide is the "Silent Killer"
Dr. Johnson's cousin has some family members that died from carbon monoxide poisoning recently. Even though it was not a close relative, hearing a story like that really hits home. Dr. Johnson wanted us to share some carbon monoxide tips with you to help keep you safe and healthy.
Carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer. It has no odor and can cause death even without symptoms. It is very dangerous and without a detector, you would never know about it.
Sometimes there are symptoms...and these are the most common ones:
- dizziness
- vomiting
- fatigue
- weakness
- headaches
- confusion
- trouble breathing
- ringing in the ears
- bright pink skin
- cigarette smoke

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an odorless gas and it frequently is built up by a running car, vents blocked by snow, furnaces, and cooking with charcoal indoors.
Carbon monoxide detectors are usually triggered at 70 ppm. It is important to have carbon monoxide detectors in several areas of the home in order to keep inhabitants safe from toxic levels of gas which may be too far from the detector to trigger it before toxic levels are reached.
Be sure to replace the batteries frequently. Carbon monoxide testing kits are also available.
