Don’t Flush The Floss

While dentists promote the daily use of floss, it is important to also promote the proper method of disposal. Many types of floss, especially the newer brands, are conveniently shred-resistant but also non-biodegradable. This may make users think flushing the floss to be a safer-planet option, however, recent studies have shown that is not the case. Once floss is flushed, it has the potential to create havoc in the waste processing stations, causing major jams and increased maintenance. Users with septic tanks should also be aware as the floss can clog and potentially damage septic tank components should it become trapped.

Although tossing used dental floss into a trashcan may not be ideal, it is definitely the preferred disposal method.
