Colorado Mission of Mercy
Alamosa, Colorado 2007

Johnson Dental participated in the first ever Colorado Mission of Mercy in Alamosa, Colorado on October 19th and 20th. CoMOM is a free dental clinic that provides emergency and restorative procedures at no charge to patients with low income and no insurance. Over 90 dentists and hygienists from all over the state volunteered their time and equipment.
Plachy Hall gymnasium hosted the clinic where 1,359 patients were treated over the two day period. $627,998 was donated in free dental care. Residents began waiting in line at 11pm the night before the clinic opened. And because only so many patients could be seen at one time, some waits were substantial. Each of the residents, however, was gracious and appreciated the volunteers. One lady had broken a front tooth two years before and Dr. Johnson repaired it for her and she was so happy, she called her sister over to show off her new smile.
The event brought the community together. Volunteers such as the Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus, local church groups and residents all participated in checking in patients, sterilizing instruments, delivering supplies etc.
